Caring for your pets – and the place they live

At Ledbury Park Vets, we’re fortunate to work in a beautiful rural setting, surrounded by countryside, wildlife and open space. It’s a privilege to care for animals in an environment like this, and we know how important it is – not just for our pets’ health, but for our own wellbeing too.

Like many people, we’re increasingly aware that the world around us is under pressure. Pollution, waste and climate change all affect the landscapes and communities we value. As a local practice, we believe it’s part of our responsibility to look after both the animals in our care and the environment they live in.

Alongside providing the highest standard of veterinary care, we take practical steps to reduce our impact wherever we can. Nothing grand or performative – just sensible, everyday changes that add up over time.

Ledbury Park Veterinary Centre

Reducing waste

We separate cardboard, food waste, clinical waste and general waste to make recycling easier and more effective.
Where possible, we avoid single-use plastics, for example by using newspaper to line kennels.
Many items of equipment – such as surgical drapes, breathing tubes and otoscope attachments – are sterilised and reused safely.
We use paperless systems wherever practical, sending reminders, information and invoices by email.
Regular stock and medication audits help us minimise unnecessary waste.
Our anaesthetic equipment is designed to reduce the release of waste gases into the environment.

Conserving energy and resources

We use low-energy lighting and motion-activated switches in key areas around the practice.
All electrical equipment is regularly serviced and safety tested to improve efficiency and reliability.
Our heating is carefully timed to avoid unnecessary gas use.
Laundry cycles are run only when machines are full, helping reduce both water and energy consumption.

Responsible sourcing

Where possible, we work with suppliers who take sustainability seriously. Our main wholesaler, MWI, has an active programme to reduce its own carbon footprint.
We plan orders carefully and buy in bulk when appropriate, helping to reduce transport emissions and unnecessary deliveries.

These are small choices, but together they reflect how we think about our role in the community: caring for your pets today, while helping protect the countryside they’ll enjoy for years to come.
